What is it you want to achieve/solve?:
How can we combine the open data that local authorities have on public services and public facilities with information that other groups have on “things to do” locally? This could be really useful to people who have just moved into the local area but also to people who are just visiting!
We talk about Trip Advisor for public services, but if we had a rating system for all local facilities (public services and community-based), then everyone would benefit!
Who is the audience?:
People visiting the local area
What data sets are available/needed?:
Datasets available
Various datasets on libraries, adult education centres, hospitals, schools, cycle routes, allotments, cemeteries, golf courses, halls for hire, leisure centres, museums, nurseries, parks and open spaces, public toilets, swimming pools, theatres, youth centres and car park availability (real time) at www.openkent.org.uk
Datasets needed
Data from local businesses, charities and community groups on their facilities and activities.
What are the apparent barriers to realisation (if any)?:
Information not available as open data

As a parent I'm really excited about the possibility of this one, particularly if done in a standardised way which encourages local businesses to share informatin too about what's on and pay-to-play activities in my local area.
Plings was funded to do this specifically around young people's services. It's still going, worth a look here: http://www.plings.net/
